Eye Clinic - November 5

Sunday, November 5
Exams: starting at 10:00
Dr. Paul Scherlie Jr., DVM, Diplomate ACVO
$20.00 per dog ($15 CRCTC members).

Please plan to bring your Cairn Terriers (other breeds also welcome) to our annual Eye Clinic. Come for Cairn eye health, stay for the potluck lunch.

Based on what is known from research, pet Cairn Terriers over the age of two should be checked every year for signs of ocular melanosis and for eye disease generally until they are at least 13 years old. The exams are painless and take only a few minutes. If you read the attached information we think you’ll agree that regular eye health screenings are important for our own dogs’ health and well-being, as well as for our breed’s future.

The Eye Clinic will be held Sunday morning, November 5, 2006, with appointments beginning at 10:00 AM, on a more-or-less first-come, first-served basis. Multiple dogs from the same home will be scheduled back-to-back to make it easier for you to get them all done at once.

Our vet will be Dr. Paul Scherlie Jr., DVM, Diplomate ACVO. Exams will be only $20.00 per dog ($15 for CRCTC members)  – both represent a substantial discount! Micro-chipping will also be available for a nominal added cost. The clinic will be held at Marcella Cobb’s Misty Meadows Kennels in Boring Oregon (address below).

If you can, please bring your Cairn Terrier’s pedigree with you. If you have a Cairn over 12 years old who screens clear for OM, you will be offered a free DNA swab kit if you would like to contribute your dog’s DNA to OM research. For more information about ocular melanosis, please read the attached PDF documents and the research reports on the Cairn Terrier Club of America’s health-related concerns page.

By offering these clinics and combining some socializing and a potluck, we’re doing our best to make it affordable, easy, and fun to get this screening done, for everyone from the owner of a single pet, to active breeders. We are grateful to Dr. Scherlie for his time and contribution of reduced fees to support our efforts.

See you and your Cairns in November!

A few pictures have been posted to an album for the first CRCTC grooming seminar.  Thank you to everyone who supported it by attending. Many thanks to our presenters, Ed Cook and Pat Hassey - I think everyone learned something new and many of us left inspired and freshly remotivated. Thanks also to Susan McAlpin for putting together an informative day. Cick a photo to see a few more pictures.
